Marcus McConico’s impressive presence and versatile range
warrants rave reviews in performed signature roles such as Alfredo
in La Traviata, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Cavaradossi in
Tosca, the title roles in Faust, Werther and Albert Herring, as
well as Roméo and Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette, Don
José in La tragédie de Carmen, and Rinuccio in Gianni
Schicchi. Of a recent performance as the title role in Faust, the
Washington Post says “He sang a tenderly romantic "Salut!
Demeure chaste et pure. Like soprano Borst, McConico has an impressive
lower range; his occasional dips into baritone territory revealed
a darkly rich tone.”
Marcus McConico has performed Alfredo in La Traviata with Opera
Columbus, Augusta
Opera, Baltimore Opera, Opera Roanoke, and the Italian American
Festival Duluth, and
most recently, Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance for Opera Carolina,
and Lysander in A
Midsummer Night’s Dream for Lyric Opera of the North. In 2006,
Mr. McConico appeared
as Il Duca in Rigoletto, and sang concert performances of Così
fan tutte as Ferrando, both for the Sieur DuLuth Summer Arts Festival.
In July 2006 Mr. McConico sang Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with
Duluth Festival Opera, and in April sang Rodolfo in La Bohème
for the Unviversity of Minnesota with performances in Minneapolis
and Duluth. The 2004-2005 season saw Mr. McConico’s debuts
with Virginia Opera, as Faust, and with North Star Opera
(now Skylark Opera) in St. Paul, MN as Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus.
Mr. McConico has
worked as an apprentice with numerous opera organizations including
Central City Opera, Knoxville Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, and
Baltimore Opera. Mr. McConico made his Baltimore Opera debut as
the Coachman and Nihilist Teacher in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk in
2003. With Baltimore Opera, Mr. McConico has also performed, Ruiz
in Il Trovatore, Bruno in I Puritani, Abdallo in Nabucco, and Ruggero
in Puccini’s La Rondine.
Internationally, Mr. McConico has sung as Tenor Soloist in Turkish
Oratorio Yunus Emre with performances in Izmir, Ankara, Marmaris,
and Yalikavak, Turkey, as well as recital appearances in Palermo,
Italy and Tel Aviv, Israel. Mr. McConico has also appeared with
the Pacific Symphony of Orange County and the Redlands Symphony
in California, the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, the Knoxville
Symphony Orchestra, and the Baltimore Symphony
Orchestra, as well as concert performances in Lynchburg, VA, Hot
Springs, AR, and Auburn, AL. Upcoming engagements include Tenor
Soloist in Händel’s Messiah with the Duluth Superior
Symphony Orchestra in December, and Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette
for Baltimore Opera in March 2008.
Mr. McConico holds an MM in Vocal Performance for the University
of Tennessee, and a BM in Vocal Performance from the University
of Minnesota Duluth, and currently studies voice with Arthur Levy
in New York.
